The great psychiatrist and writer Irvin Yalom said of psychotherapy that “It’s the relationship that heals.” I have forged healing therapeutic relationships with clients for close to 20 years in a variety of treatmentsettings. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults addressing a wide range of issues such asgrief, anxiety, depression, marital conflict, and divorce recovery. I have also had great success helpingteens with low self esteem and difficulties adjusting to a blended family. In all cases, I emphasize people’s strengths to foster hope and help reinforce their natural resilience to overcome distress.
We live during a time of unprecedented change in human history, and many of those changes come in theexpanded understanding of human emotions, thoughts, and the brain. I’m constantly reading to make surethat I offer guidance and insight based in current research.
In what feels like another lifetime, I played an important behind-the-scenes roll in the creation of andearly success of Wikipedia. During what is now know as the Web 1.0 days, I quit my job as a therapist in the Seattle, Washington area and moved to San Diego, CA to join the first internet gold rush. After almost 8 years working on the internet, he decided that being a therapist more suited his spirit. At the time, I was known as Terry Foote, my birth name.
Now, I share a beautiful home by the Gulf of Mexico in Tarpon Springs, FL with my wife and 5 cats. Mywife and I enjoy spending time with our extended family. Also, I enjoy bicycle riding, fitness, cookingand reading.
